Newcastle vs Wolves Predictions

This game sees two sides meet who went through very different emotions on Tuesday night. Newcastle cemented their status as clear title favourites with the 6-0 demolition of QPR at Loftus Road. Wolves, meanwhile, were on the wrong end of a 4-0 hiding at home by Barnsley.

The goals all came in the final 17 minutes but the manner in which they capitulated would’ve been of real concern to new Wolves boss Walter Zenga, who had looked to have made some progress prior to that result. Wolves slipped to 16th on the back of it though, having conceded a late goal to only draw 1-1 at home to Burton at the weekend. Their opening set of fixtures haven’t really been that challenging so suddenly it’s not looking so bright for the side from the Black Country and it’s hard to see them getting anything from their trip to Tyneside.

Newcastle have responded to losing their opening 2 games of the season by rolling off 6 straight victories in all competitions and the dominant manner of their last two wins, which both came on the road, have really sent out a message to the rest of this league. Rafa Benitez made 4 changes for his side’s trip to Loftus Road but the 6-0 win demonstrated the real strength in depth his side possesses. He would’ve been relieved to see Jonjo Shelvey score twice from midfield in perhaps his best display since joining the club in January.

The squad Benitez has assembled would almost certainly at least be competitive in the Premier League and they may dish out one or two more thrashings before the season is out. Wolves priority will be trying to sure-up at the back after that late collapse against Barnsley and they are likely to come here with a cautious approach. But with Newcastle’s confidence sky high right now and with the chances coming thick and fast, it’d be a major surprise were they not to win this with a bit of breathing space.

Therefore backing Newcastle -1.0 Asian Handicap at 2.050 looks a safe bet here.
