Newport County vs Barnet Predictions & Betting Tips, Match Preview

Newport suffered a heavy defeat in the Checkatrade Trophy midweek when they lost 4-1 to a rapidly improving Plymouth Argyle. County are no doubt putting little focus on the competition and will concentrate primarily on retaining their place in the Football League. Despite a budget that has once again been lowered they have still done plenty of business in the transfer window and have been boosted by three arrivals on loan this week. The Exiles have had a difficult start to the season but they will be happy to have good points already on the board after facing most of the teams fancied to do well this season.

Martin Allen’s Barnet side was expected to struggle this season and was tipped by a few to be dragged into a relegation battle. They started the season well, however, and were able to put points on the board as they built momentum. The trouble that they have found is that many of those points have come in the way of a draw, so when they suffered their first defeat last week, it puts a different spin on their start to the season.

Given the excellent record Barnet have over their hosts and the patchy form that Newport have shown so far, it makes it hard to tip a home win for this one. We think it will be a closely fought affair but we fancy Barnet to just have enough to get the win.
