Newport County vs Scunthorpe Predictions
When a side has had a poor start to the season and things begin to improve, it is always interesting to see if they are able to maintain the upturn in form or if they slip back into old habits and continue their slide down the league. For Scunthorpe United fans, they will be hoping it is just a case of a relegation hangover and they will be looking to continue their recovery when they make the trip to South Wales to face off against a strong Newport County side.
Newport County will be pleased with the progress they have made under boss Michael Flynn since his appointment a few years ago, and with the side currently holding a play-off spot, they will certainly be aiming for promotion come the end of the season. A major part of their success is their ability to keep the opposition at bay and the six goals they have conceded this term represents the best defensive record in League Two.
Scunthorpe United will have come into this campaign determined to bounce back to League One at the earliest opportunity, but a slow start to the campaign means that they face an uphill battle if they are to accomplish this goal. However, the visitors have improved in recent weeks, and a dominant 3-0 victory over Northampton last time out certainly displays that. There is still work to do though, as the Iron are yet to win in the league away from home and they are currently just two points above the drop zone.
Newport County are certainly the favourites, but the improvement of the hosts means the win-draw-win market is a little risky. Given the defensive record of the hosts and the fact that the visitors have conceded an average of a goal per game in their last four matches, we think that backing there to be less than 2.5 goals scored is the way to go.
In terms of our correct score tip, we are going to be a little bolder. The hosts are not exactly renowned for finding the back of the net and they will be looking to keep yet another clean sheet. Therefore, backing a 1-0 home win is where we are placing our trust.
