Nimes vs Toulouse Predictions
Toulouse only just stayed in the league last year with Alain Casanova back at the helm following his three year absence but it looks as if the Frenchman is now taking the club in an upwards direction following their positive start to the campaign. They have lost just one of their opening five matches and with this coming against PSG, Toulouse fans should be pretty satisfied with their start to this campaign. They almost got another impressive result last week as they drew 2-2 with Saint-Étienne but the Violets threw away a two goal lead which will disappoint Casanova.
Toulouse have scored six goals in their opening five matches which isn’t incredible but they have created the sixth best chances in the league with an xG of 6.97 seeing them rank above the likes of Marseille and Lyon. Toulouse won’t be overly confident for this match though as they currently have the second worst xGA in the league and will be the away team for this one. They haven’t won any of their last twelve away games with 25 goals conceded in the process.
Nîmes have a much better record when playing at home so they may back themselves at the Stade des Costières. Nîmes have lost just two of their last eleven home matches with these defeats coming against lofty opposition in Nice and Lyon. Nîmes won their last home game 3-0 against Brest.
Nîmes beginning to the campaign wasn’t ideal with two defeats and a draw in their first three matches but they faced very tough opponents in these games like Nice, PSG and Monaco. Like Toulouse, Nîmes have also scored six and conceded seven goals this season with almost identical xG and xGA stats. This could serve up quite the exciting match as a result.
This match will see the league’s two worst defences in terms of xGA come against each other and with both teams OK for goals, we’re backing both teams to score in this one. Nîmes have scored in 15 of their last 16 home matches while Toulouse have scored in six of their last seven games. We’re also going to tip this one in favour of the hosts as Nîmes have displayed an extremely formidable home record since getting promoted to Ligue 1 last year. As a result we see this one finishing 2-1 to the hosts.
