Partick Thistle vs St Johnstone Predictions

Partick Thistle made a good start to the campaign as they kicked off the revamped version of the Scottish League Cup by winning all four of their group games. They carried this confidence through into their Scottish Premiership opener when they beat Inverness CT 2-0 at home.

This perfect start to the new season had many fans hopeful that they could improve on their 9th place finish the season before and start pushing up the ranks, but that hope was rather short lived.

Partick Thistle followed their Scottish Premiership win with a 3-1 defeat to the recently relegated Dundee United in the Scottish League Cup, and since then they have lost a further two matches, with games against Aberdeen and Hearts both ending 2-1. These are two of the toughest fixtures of the season for them, but they will need to start picking up points again soon to avoid being sent into a dangerous spiral of losing.

St. Johnstone had a marginally less impressive start to the season as they won three of their four Scottish League Cup games but were defeated by Brechin City on penalties. They began the Premiership campaign with a decent goalless draw against Aberdeen though, but the St. Johnstone faithful know that it will be difficult to hang on to the 4th position they have finished in for the past two seasons with Rangers now back in the top flight.

The visitors managed to knock Hearts out of the Scottish League Cup  in a thrilling 3-2 victory and then beat Motherwell 2-1 away from home. They have since lost 4-2 to Celtic and 2-1 to Inverness CT, but they have managed to get three difficult fixtures out of the way early on this season and haven’t suffered too much from them.

One thing to note about both teams’ beginnings to this campaign is their high scoring nature. St Johnstone have seen 21 goals in their last six matches, and seven of their nine competitive matches so far have seen at least three goals scored. Partick Thistle have seen more than two goals scored in five of their eight competitive outings, so odds of 23/20 for Over 2.5 Goals on Saturday are excellent value for money. I’m going for that along with a 2-1 win for St Johnstone at 17/2 for my correct score prediction.
