Philadelphia Union vs Orlando City Predictions

Philadelphia looked pretty meagre last Saturday when they fell to a 1-0 defeat to last season’s bottom dwellers Chicago Fire. This was Chicago Fire’s first win of the season, and they deserved it considering their visitors’ dismal display. Admittedly, Phildelphia Union’s chances were thwarted when centre back Warren Creavalle was sent off just after half time, but they were outplayed by the struggling hosts.

This was Union’s second defeat of the new MLS season, with their opening match also seeing them lose 2-0 to FC Dallas. In between these two losses came back to back victories against Columbus Crew and New England Revolution, which overall represents a decent start to the campaign as they try to better last years’ 9th place finish in the MLS Eastern Conference.

Orlando City have also started with the intent of bettering their debut MLS campaign. They finished in 7th last season, five points outside of the playoff zone. This was a fairly decent season for a newly formed football team, but there is no doubt that they are aiming for the playoffs this time round.

They began their season with back to back draws at home to Real Salt Lake and Chicago Fire, but after that seemed to find their feet and have won matches against New York City and, most recently, the MLS champions Portland Timbers.

They didn’t just edge it against the champions either. They went four goals up against the visiting Timbers through four different goalscorers, with Portland Timbers adding a consolation just before the final whistle.

This could be a real test of mettle for both sides. Philadelphia Union have won their last two competitive home matches, but they are coming up against an Orlando City side who have won three of their last four away days in the MLS. This includes their 1-0 win over New York City this season and a 5-2 thrashing of Supporters’ Shield winners New York Red Bulls at the end of last season.

I think the visitors can get something from this match, especially considering they will be on a high after their excellent performance last weekend. Odds of 4/6 for an Orlando City Win or Draw Double Chance look excellent value for money too. I’m going for a 2-1 win for Orlando City at 11/1 as well.
