Poland vs Denmark Predictions

Poland had a rather flat summer as they contested in Euro 2016. Their hopes lay on the shoulders of Robert Lewandowski and Arkadiusz Milik up front, but the two strikers couldn’t find their shooting boots. Poland ended up scoring four goals in their five matches at Euro 2016, going out on penalties to eventual winners Portugal in the quarter finals.

They followed this with a disappointing draw away to Kazakhstan in their World Cup qualifying opener. They went two goals up in the first half but collapsed defensively for a ten minute spell in the second half as the hosts got back into the game.

However, Poland are a force to be reckoned with at home. They have only lost one of their last 14 matches in Poland, winning nine of them and beating the likes of Germany, Republic of Ireland, Iceland, and Czech Republic. This puts them in the category as firm favourites for the top spot in this group, with none of the chasing pack of Denmark, Kazakhstan, Montenegro, Romania, or Armenia likely to give them any problems at the top of the table.

Whilst Poland were playing in France, Denmark had to settle for the friendly tournament of the Kirin Cup in Japan after being knocked out of the playoffs by arch rivals Sweden. They had finished 3rd in their group behind Portugal and surprise package Albania.

Denmark’s form is looking decent at the moment, but you have to take into account the quality of their opposition. They beat Armenia 1-0 in the World Cup qualifying opener and have won against Liechtenstein, Bulgaria, and Iceland recently. This takes their overall record to four wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last eight outings.

Away from home they have lost five and drawn one of their last six though, and they’re facing a Poland side with a potentially lethal attacking two. Christian Eriksen will be pretty much Denmark’s only major threat going forward, so the ball is firmly in Poland’s court here.

Considering Poland’s home form and Denmark’s poor record on the road I think odds of 11/10 for a Poland Win are extremely good value, so I’m backing that along with a 2-0 correct score prediction at 8/1.
