PSG vs Club Brugge Predictions

  • PSG are through to the round of 16 as group runners-up, but need a win to quieten doubts about their overall chances.
  • Club Brugge will finish third and enter the UEFA Europa League knockout play-offs if they win and Leipzig do not, or if they draw and Leipzig lose.
  • PSG have kept only one clean sheet in their last five home games.
  • Club Brugge have scored in eight of their last ten away Champions League games.

Pochettino needs PSG to erase memory of City collapse

Paris Saint-Germain got the job done in qualifying for the last-16, but it wasn’t particularly convincing and the nature of their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City could have serious implications for Mauricio Pochettino’s job.

All their focus remains on this competition and Pochettino will want to close out the group stage with a resounding win to erase the memory of how they fell apart in the face of City’s pressing game two weeks ago.

Pressing was the key to Club Brugge earning a point in the opening group game between these sides back in September and there will be a feeling from the Belgians that it could be their best route to success again.

But they have subsequently suffered some wide-margin defeats in this competition to Manchester City and RB Leipzig while the situation in the group may call for a more circumspect approach.

History says Brugge have potential to score in Paris

The prize of Europa League football would be theirs if they draw in Paris and City see off Leipzig in Germany at the same time. Club Brugge may be a little less gung-ho in their approach to this fixture with more focus on staying in the game, so we are a giving the Evens price about over 3.5 goals a pass this time.

PSG needed a 90th-minute equaliser from Georginio Wijnaldum to nick a point at Lens, but they created enough prior to that to suggest scoring goals isn’t their problem. We’re taking them to get at least two here – as they have done in both of their previous home group games – but the big question is whether they concede or not.

Blauw-Zwart have scored in their last 13 away games in all competitions and in eight of their last ten Champions League road games, so history suggest they do – hence the 2-1 correct score prediction.
