Rangers vs Young Boys Predictions
- A draw is all Rangers need to ensure they’re in the draw for the last 32.
- Young Boys will go through with a win, while a draw may be enough if Porto lose.
- Rangers have conceded the fewest number of goals in Group G.
- Rangers are yet to concede at home in Group G, while they’re also yet to drop points at Ibrox.
Rangers in pole position
After their agonising and frankly unjust defeat in the Scottish League Cup final on Sunday, Rangers turn their attentions to continental football. Steven Gerrard’s men can progress to the last 32 as group winners; to do that all they need to do is avoid defeat.
It’s been an up-and-down campaign for Rangers, who’ve won two, drawn two and lost one of their five matches in Group G, but at no point have they looked like they may not be right in the hunt for top spot come match-day six. Since their narrow defeat at Young Boys on match-day two, Rangers have gone unbeaten in three Group G games, two of which they’ve won.
More importantly, the Scottish outfit have won each of their two games at Ibrox, beating Feyenoord by a goal to nil and Porto by two goals to nil. The fact they’ve done a good job of restricting teams when winning at home, conceding zero goals, should mean Rangers come into this final game feeling confident, even if they are playing the only team to beat them.
Visitors still in with a shout
Young Boys have also performed respectably in the Europa League this term, though thanks to losing home and away against Porto, the Swiss outfit aren’t in as good a position as Thursday’s hosts.
On their own patch, where they beat both Rangers and Feyenoord, Young Boys have looked like a useful side, but it’s been a different story on the road. Gerardo Seoane’s men are without an away win in Group G.
They lost in Portugal and drew 1-1 with Feyenoord in Holland. Not only are Young Boys without an away win this season, they’ve now not won away from home in the Europa League since 2014. During that time, they’ve failed to win 10 games, five of which they’ve lost.
Fans at Ibrox to witness goals
Rangers’ home form bodes well ahead of this match, though backing them to simply win may not be the best bet. The bet that really stands out is ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’. Rangers may not have conceded at home yet, but they struggled massively to keep Young Boys at bay when the pair met in the reverse fixture.
Moreover, the visitors have scored in 100% of their matches in Group G and haven’t failed to score away from home in the Europa League since 2016. Add to this the fact Rangers have scored in each of their group games and plumping for goals is hard to avoid. The fact the pair average 2.8 goals for between them in Group G also fuels the selection.
In the ‘Correct Score’ market, Rangers are backed to do to Young Boys what the Swiss did to them in the reverse fixture and that is win by two goals to one. Rangers have scored twice in each of their last two in this group, while the visitors have scored exactly once in each of their travelling matches.
