Atalanta Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

Atalanta have only lost two of their last nine head-to-head clashes with Roma, and are yet to taste defeat this season. La Dea have Serie A’s best defensive record, conceding just three goals, and may be able to contain a team with two defeats in their last four matches.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Roma have scored multiple goals in just three of their last nine games, though the partnership between Paulo Dybala and Tammy Abraham makes them a threat. Atalanta have averaged the fifth-lowest share of possession in Serie A this season, and conceded just 3.8 expected goals, so could be well suited to playing on the break.

Roma vs Atalanta Predictions

  • Atalanta are yet to lose this season, posting four wins and two draws from their six matches, which makes the 7/10 around the double chance market appealing.
  • Roma have lost two of their last four matches.
  • The Giallorossi have only won two of their last nine head-to-head meetings with La Dea, though they both came last season.
  • Atalanta have conceded three Serie A goals this season, fewer than any other team.

Dark horses meet in Rome

With their respective tallies of 13 and 14 points, Roma and Atalanta have emerged as potential dark horses in what looks to be an open Serie A season, each posting four wins in six outings at the start of the campaign. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, however, are one of just four unbeaten outfits, and they could have the upper hand at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.

Atalanta have lost just two of their last nine head-to-head meetings with Roma, although both of those reverses came last campaign. But La Dea’s positive start has been the result of a dramatic shift in style; Atalanta have Serie A’s best defensive record this season, conceding three goals from just 3.8 expected goals (xG), and have done so playing on the break. Only five teams have averaged less possession than La Dea in Serie A this season, last term only five averaged more.

Roma have bounced back from their consecutive defeats to Udinese and Ludogorets by beating Empoli and HJK, but Jose Mourinho’s men could struggle to break down their visitors after only scoring multiple goals in three of their last nine games. The Giallorossi’s start has been no fluke – no team has created more than their 12.6 xG this season, but their record against top sides is poor; they won just two of 12 games against Serie A’s top seven last season.

Back La Dea to stay unbeaten

Anybody who watched Atalanta put in a fine defensive display in a draw with Milan earlier this season will likely be left surprised at the price available around them on the double chance market, so backing the visitors to remain unbeaten looks prudent.

Atalanta have won all three of their away games this season and took two-thirds of their points on the road last term, but correct score punters should still beware the threat of Paulo Dybala and Tammy Abraham. A 1-1 draw could represent a decent prediction.
