Tip Reasoning

  • In their 10 matches against top eight opposition in Serie A, Salernitana have only netted one goal, losing all of those games and shipping 29 goals.
  • AC Milan have won seven of their last nine matches, including an extra-time win against Genoa.
  • The Rossoneri have won their last two games to nil, and have only conceded one goal in their last four games.

Rossoneri hit the summit

AC Milan’s run of three successive wins has taken them to the top of Serie A, taking advantage of cross-city rivals Inter’s post-Christmas stumbles. Stefano Pioli’s team have only conceded one goal in their last four, following up a goalless draw with Juve by beating Inter, and winning to nil against Lazio and Sampdoria.

Milan have now won seven of their last nine games in all competitions and are unbeaten in their last six away trips, winning five of those despite facing tough trips to the likes of Atletico Madrid and Inter. The Rossoneri beat Salernitana 2-0 in early December, and will be hopeful of continuing their title charge when they travel to Serie A’s bottom club on Saturday.

Salernitana have managed back-to-back draws with fellow strugglers Spezia and Genoa, but have still won just one of their last 15 games. Those stalemates were not enough to prevent Stefano Colantuono from losing his job this week, and former Torino boss Davide Nicola is the man who will hope to lead the club to a miraculous survival. Concerningly for the new boss, Salernitana have lost all 10 of their games against top eight opponents this term, scoring just one goal.

Back Milan for shutout win over new boss

Salernitana’s record of just 17 goals in 24 games is easily the worst in Serie A, as is their woeful return of just seven goals in 11 home matches. Salernitana average the lowest share of possession in the league, and are second-bottom for both shots and shots on target, so they shouldn’t trouble a Milan defence with four clean sheets in their last seven games.

We’re tipping Milan to win to nil on Saturday night, while a repeat of their earlier 2-0 win over the strugglers could be a decent correct score prediction.
