San Lorenzo vs CA Talleres De Cordoba Predictions

Sunday’s Superliga Argentina action sees San Lorenzo doing battle with Talleres. Neither side arrives in great shape but it’s the hosts who are the favourites to claim all 3 points.

It had looked a long time coming and a midweek Copa Argentina penalty shootout defeat to second tier Temperley finally saw Claudio Biaggio leave the San Lorenzo dugout. El Ciclon have played uninspiring football and looked a weak outfit for quite some time under Biaggio and the cup defeat, alongside the team’s current 20th place Superliga standing finally saw the change made.

Biaggio’s successor has already been named and has to rank as something of a coup, with Jorge Almiron, the man who lead Lanus to a league title and Libertadores final, coming in. Whilst he won’t be in charge for this match, those taking to the field will be looking to impress and continuing what is a 6 unbeaten run in home league matches is the only target.

Meanwhile, Talleres boss Juan Vojvoda could also find himself out of a job soon as well if things don’t improve swiftly. It was always going to be a big ask to replace Frank Kudelka, the man who lead La T from the depths of the third tier all the way to Libertadores qualification last season but the visitor’s current 17th placed standing is far from acceptable all the same.

Having hammered arch rivals Belgrano 3-0 a month ago, pressure has been somewhat lifted on the boss but a dreadful performance in a 2-0 loss at Defensa y Justicia and a disappointing 0-0 home draw against newly promoted San Martin de Tucuman since have it firmly back on. Having also lost 3 away games in a row, the visitors certainly look up against it going into Sunday’s game.

Ultimately, this is a match San Lorenzo really need to be winning in order to improve their standing. Whilst their squad probably isn’t strong enough to compete at the top of the table, it’s still more than good enough to be higher than where it’s currently languishing and the hosts need to find improvement swiftly.

For all their struggles, San Lorenzo remain a powerful force on their own patch, winning 4 of a 6 league match unbeaten streak there. As such, at current prices, backing a home win looks to provide excellent value. Talleres appear a shadow of the side they once were and we can’t see them taking anything back to Cordoba, with a 1-0 San Lorenzo win on the cards.
