Southampton vs Newcastle Predictions
Southampton’s 1-0 defeat to Leicester last weekend can’t be held against them. They were facing a very efficient outfit who look very capable of winning the Premier League, and before that they impressive everyone with a comeback against Liverpool.
This makes it two wins, two defeats, and a draw in their last five outings in the Premier League, results which have left them trailing the top four by seven points down in 7th position. However, this can still be considered a successful season even if they can’t keep pace with West Ham’s surprise top four challenge.
Three points should be a given on Saturday though really. They are coming up against a Newcastle side who have lost four and drawn one of their last five outings, results which leave them six points adrift of Premier League safety.
They looked to be taking a valuable point off fellow relegation candidates Norwich last weekend, but a late goal saw them lose in dramatic circumstances. This 3-2 defeat also highlighted another potential issue: The fact that they are without both Tim Krul and Rob Elliott for the remainder of the season. Things could get very messy at the back for them in the coming matches.
Away from home they have lost nine competitive games in a row, and even the potential one man saviour of Aleksandar Mitrovic will find it very tough against the Southampton back line on Saturday. This, along with Newcastle’s shocking defensive record and the fact that they are using their 3rd choice goalkeeper, makes me think it could be a comfortable win for the hosts on Saturday.
Odds of 2.000 for a Southampton -1.0 Asian Handicap Win look incredibly good value with all this taken into consideration, and I’m also going to back a 3-0 correct score prediction at 11/1.
