Strasbourg vs Monaco Predictions

  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in seven of the last nine Monaco away league games.
  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in four of the last six Strasbourg home league games.
  • Strasbourg have drawn their last three games while Monaco have drawn two of their last four away league games.

Strasbourg seek to reignite Champions League quest

Strasbourg will bid to reignite their challenge for a top-three finish when on Sunday they play host to a Monaco side that suffered a Europa League setback in midweek.

Les Bleu et Blanc dropped points at mid-table Reims last weekend to make it three draws in a row, but their underlying stats still suggest they can mount a Champions League challenge. Strasbourg have restricted four of their last five Ligue 1 opponents to an xG of less than 1.0 – a superb reaction to the shock 4-3 defeat to Bordeaux in late January.

Sunday’s visit of Monaco looks likely to be a tight game too given Phillip Clement’s side showed impressive defensive fortitude in their 1-0 away win over Marseille last weekend. The Monagasques were beaten 2-0 by Braga on Thursday, but are likely to recall star centre-back Benoit Badiashile to their starting line-up after he was inexplicably rested in Portugal.

Draw may be on the cards

We’re favouring a play on fewer than three goals for this one because only two of Monaco’s last nine away league games have hit that number while four of the last six Strasbourg home games have been ‘unders’ winners. A 1-1 draw may be the most likely outcome here because Strasbourg have only scored four in their last four at the Stade de la Meinau – the same tally as Monaco have managed in their last four away trips.

Strasbourg have drawn their last three games while Monaco have drawn two of their last four away league games, so a stalemate may well be on the cards.
