Strasbourg vs Nimes Predictions
Torrential downpours on the south coast of France made Nîmes’ hosting of Rennes unplayable last week but Bernard Blaquart’s men will have surely put the extra days of training to good use. Nîmes have been very hard to beat in recent weeks but unfortunately have struggled to be much more than that. They have lost just two of their last nine league games but have also won just two of them as they are tied with Brest for most draws this season in Ligue 1. Nîmes did win their most recent game in the Coupe de la Ligue 3-0 but it was almost entirely a second-string side that was fielded as they breezed past Lens.
Outwith this win Nîmes have been fairly toothless as they have failed to score in four of their last seven league games, netting just four times. They have been even worse when playing away form home, as they will be for this match, as they are still to win a game on the road. They have picked up just four of a possible 18 points away from home and that might not improve as they travel to a club that prides itself on its form in from of its own fans.
Strasbourg have started this season extremely poorly as they currently sit 17th but the Alsatians have been a far better side when playing at home. The Stade de la Meinau has been the one shining light for the eastern France side as they have picked up eleven of their twelve points at their own ground. Strasbourg’s last seven games have seen them lose four and win three with each of the victories coming at the Meinau.
They have lost just one of their nine matches there in all competitions this season, scoring twelve goals and conceding seven. Strasbourg’s away from has been astoundingly contrasting with defeats in each of their last six games on the road but they’ll be looking to show their home form in this match as they host the Crocodiles.
Nîmes did win their last game in the cup but it was against Ligue 2 opposition and in the league they haven’t been overly convincing so we’re backing the home side to take home the three points here. Nîmes have failed to score in four of their last six away games and with Strasbourg keeping clean sheets in their last two home games we’re expecting the hosts to win 1-0. Both of Strasbourg’s last two wins were by a one goal margin and with Nîmes only conceding more than once in one of their last nine games we’re backing the Alsatians to win by this scoreline.
