Stuttgart vs Dynamo Dresden Predictions

Stuttgart go in search of a first league win in four matches when they welcome Dresden to Mercedes-Benz Arena on Sunday afternoon. The visitors will be hoping to win for the first time in five league games.

Given their one and only goal, which is of course to return to the Bundesliga at the first time of asking, it’s been a relatively pleasing start to the campaign for Stuttgart, who’re currently in 3rd place, just four points behind league leaders Hamburg. However, their form has waned of late, as Sunday’s hosts come into this fixture having lost each of their last three league matches.

Fortunately for the hosts, they’ve done well at home this term and are up against a side that has struggled on the road. As things stand, Stuttgart have the third-best home record in the division, winning four and losing two. In general, Sunday’s hosts have impressed on their own patch; they’ve got on the front foot, have created far more than they’ve given away in terms of chances and have scored at least twice in four out of six. Moreover, they’ve conceded more than once in just one out of six.

In contrast, Dresden have had a torrid time on their travels, losing three, drawing two and winning none of their five away matches. Scoring goals has been a bit of an issue for Sunday’s visitors, who’ve notched a modest five in five on the road, but the real problem has been at the other end of the pitch. Dresden have conceded 12 goals away from home this term. No team in Germany’s second division has conceded more.

Dresden have kept one clean sheet on the road this season – they successfully shut out Darmstadt and played well in doing so – but they’ve conceded at least twice in each of their other four travelling matches.

From a betting point of view, this is a bit of a tricky game. Stuttgart look likely winners but are tough to get behind at long odds-on. One slightly appealing angle for those interested is ‘Stuttgart to Win & Both Teams to Score’. At the end of the day, Stuttgart are a more powerful attacking side that Dresden, there can be no denying that. However, the hosts haven’t always covered themselves in defensive glory at home, conceding in three of their four wins at Mercedes-Benz Arena. Moreover, for all the visitors have struggled defensively, they have found the net in three out of five on the road and have often created chances. All things considered, backing the hosts to win without keeping a clean sheet looks the best option.
