Sunderland vs West Brom Predictions

Sunderland’s losing streak continued last week as they somehow relinquished a two goal lead against Crystal Palace, conceding three goals in the final half an hour to lose the game 3-2 and make it three Premier League defeats in a row.

They did manage to see off the threat of QPR in the League Cup during this time, but defeats to Spurs and Everton, after a 1-1 draw with Southampton, leave them without a win in the Premier League this season.

Their season actually started off in promising fashion as they kept Manchester City at bay for the majority of their opening match, only losing thanks to a late own goal from former Manchester United defender Patrick McNair. They have since lost four of their five Premier League games to leave them rock bottom of the table once again. David Moyes wasn’t joking when he said he expected a relegation battle.

West Brom began the season in a promising fashion as they beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at Selhurst Park, but a defeat to Everton and an extra time elimination from the League Cup, put a definite dampener on their opening couple of weeks.

They picked up another point at home to Middlesbrough before falling to a defeat at Bournemouth. Their landmark moment of the season came two weeks ago when they beat the disastrous West Ham 4-2 at the Hawthorns though, and they followed this with a 1-1 draw at Stoke last weekend.

This does put West Brom in a promising 10th position in the Premier League, but their inconsistency is something that needs to be addressed. Losing 1-0 to Bournemouth one week and then beating West Ham 4-2 is quite the difference in performance levels.

West Brom have managed to find the net in five of their seven competitive games this season, keeping just two clean sheets in the process. We always fancy Sunderland to get a goal with Defoe leading the line as well, and it shows by the fact that they have scored in six of their eight outings this season. Their defence is a shambles though, with them conceding 13 goals in these eight games and keeping just one clean sheet.

This makes odds of 10/11 for Both Teams to Score look a very good value bet, so I’m backing that alongside a 2-1 win for West Brom as they look to build on a promising couple of weeks.
