Tottenham Hotspur vs Bayern Munich Predictions

After a terrible few weeks, Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping that a huge clash will fire Tottenham up on Tuesday. Spurs are hosting Bayern Munich in this massive Champions League game at White Hart Lane. The hosts are already at a disadvantage following their 2-2 draw in their opening group game. Will they fall further off the top with a loss here?

It’s been an awkward spell for Tottenham, who have won once in their last four games. Their weekend success over Southampton wasn’t all that impressive, while their League Cup exit to Colchester was a big blow to their trophy hopes. While they were in the Champions League final back in June, the hosts made a slow start to this competition last season. Recent form suggests they’ll do the same in 2019.

Bayern Munich head into this week’s game with some great Bundesliga form behind them. The Bavarians are in top spot, having racked up the goals in the league. A 3-2 win at Paderborn at the weekend was their third win on the spin, as they look to boost their European ambitions in this trip. Their nine-game unbeaten run in Champions League away games does point to a good result for the German champions.

Bayern Munich are looking to become just the second side after PSG in October 2017 to score 2+ goals in six successive Champions League away group stage matches since the competition changed to its current format in 2003-04. They’ve managed to hit two goals or more in 12 of their last 14 away games in this competition, so form is with the visitors.

Last season Spurs started off with a loss at Inter Milan and a defeat to Barcelona at home. With their 2-2 draw at Olympiakos in the opener, Spurs are on the same track. Bayern head here playing well with a great record behind them, while their forward line is impressing of late. We see the visitors piling on to Tottenham’s problems, so we’re backing over 1.5 Bayern goals along with a 2-1 away win.

Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski has scored in 39 different Champions League matches; only Ruud van Nistelrooy (42), Karim Benzema (45), Raúl (56), Lionel Messi (68), Cristiano Ronaldo (82) have scored in more individual contests. The striker was in fine form in this competition last term, with eight goals across his six group stage games. He has one in one so far, while he’s scored in every Bayern game this season, with 12 goals in eight matches. We’re backing him to find the net in this trip against a flimsy Spurs defence.
