Tottenham Hotspur vs Borussia Dortmund Betting Tips & Predictions

Mauricio Pocchettino showed everyone his priorities last week when he fielded a largely weakened team in their first leg Europa League clash with Borussia Dortmund. Star players Harry Kane and Dele Alli were both left out of the starting line up in Dortmund, and Spurs paid the price as two of the Bundesliga’s standout players Pierre Emerick Aubemayang and Marco Reus scored goals in a comprehensive 3-0 win.

Turning this deficit around on Thursday looks a step too far for Spurs. Dortmund are one of, if not the best side in this competition and come into this game on the back of a 17 match unbeaten streak in which they have won 15 times. I’m also expecting Pochettino to field another weakened side as they focus all their energy on chasing a first Premier League title.

But Dortmund’s mind could be elsewhere as well. The visiting Germans have all but wrapped this tie up and they find themselves, surprisingly, just five points adrift of Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga. Both of these sides are well in with a shout of a famous league triumph, so you could forgive them both for being distracted.

I don’t think we’ll see the usual fast paced, attacking style of football from Dortmund at first. They will want to stay tight at the back to avoid any unnecessary doubt creeping in should Spurs bag an early goal. I also don’t expect much attacking threat to come from Spurs’ end. Their second string squad will struggle against Dortmund’s defence and with the tie seemingly beyond their reach I think motivation will be lacking.

This makes me think that a low scoring game could be on the cards, and odds of 1/1 for Under 2.5 Goals look very good value to me. I’m going for a 1-1 correct score prediction as well at 5/1.
