Twente vs Ajax Reserves Predictions

It’s not been the greatest of months for Twente after consecutive defeats against promotion rivals Den Bosch and Go Ahead Eagles, but Marino Pusic’s side bounced back to some degree on match day 15 with a 1-2 victory at AZ. The result keeps the Enschede outfit in the top five heading into this week’s round of fixtures, when they’ll be confident of landing another three points against a Jong Ajax side who’ve lost four in five.

Marino Pusic breathed a sigh of relief on Monday evening as Twente held on for a crucial three points at Jong AZ. Goals from Tom Boere and Matthew Smith proved decisive in a 1-2 win that got the Enschede outfit back on track following damaging recent defeats promotion rivals Den Bosch and Go Ahead, and Twente remain 5th in the table heading into this week’s round of fixtures.

And despite such a poor November overall, Twente are just three points off the top after all three co-leaders dropped points on match day 15, so fans will be feeling optimistic that their team are still well in touch of the sole automatic promotion spot even after losing four of their 15 games this term.

Only one of those defats has come away from home, and Twente have a strong record on the road overall this season. They’ve racked up 14 points from seven outings on their travels, and will fancy their chances of boosting that tally on Friday with visitors Jong Ajax in woeful shape at the moment.

The defending champions have slumped to 13th in the table after losing four of their last five league fixtures, and their dismal away form finally started to impact their mind set at Sportpark De Toekomst last week as MVV ran out 0-1 winners in Amsterdam.

Jong couldn’t have asked for a much tougher return to the road on match day 16 with a capacity crowd expected at De Grosch Veste, and it’s hard to see Michael Reiziger’s charges coping with the intimidating atmosphere in Enschede after losing their last five away matches and six out of eight in total this term.

Only the bottom four have worse travelling records than Jong Ajax who lost out to 18th placed Jong Utrecht when last away from home a fortnight ago, so there really is nothing to suggest that they can get a result in Enschede this week despite the fact Twente have been quite inconsistent at home with five wins and three defeats from eight.

So we’re backing the hosts to triumph with both teams to score – which looks great value considering Twente have conceded in seven of their eight home matches and Jong have found the net in all of their away fixtures.

This should be a high scoring clash and we also fancy the hosts to land a 4-1 victory to pile further pressure on Reiziger and his Jong side.
