Viktoria Plzen vs Austria Vienna Predictions

Viktoria Plzen’s 4-1 thrashing at Roma last month ended their slim hopes of making it to the Europa League knockout stages, but now they have a chance to end Austria Vienna’s dreams as well. The visitors sit in 3rd position with a two point deficit on Astra above them, meaning they need a win to stand any chance of leapfrogging them, and even then they need Astra to fail to beat Roma.

In terms of head to head results Austria Vienna have the slight advantage on away goals, meaning that if Astra draw and Austria Vienna win, the Austrians would make it through to the knockout rounds.

Viktoria Plzen have had a rather inconsistent season as a whole. They have won four, drawn three, and lost three of their last ten games in all competitions. They still find themselves top of the Czech Liga, but there’s just one point between them and Slavia Prague.

At home it starts to look a little better with six wins, four draws, and two defeats so far this season, but they have so far failed to win any of their Europa League group games.

Austria Vienna aren’t in the best shape either though. The visitors sit 4th in the Austrian Bundesliga and have won three and lost four of their last seven matches. Surprisingly though a lot of their success has come away from home. They have won six of their last eight on unfamiliar turf and have picked up four of their five Europa League points on the road. This includes a 3-2 win over Astra and a 3-3 draw at Roma.

Austria Vienna’s high scoring ways have certainly brought a brand of entertainment to these group stages. There have been an average of four goals per game in their group matches so far and seven of their last ten away days in all competitions have seen at least three goals scored. 12 of these goals have come courtesy of Olarenwaju Kayode, making him the top scorer in Austria Vienna’s squad, and with five of them coming in the Europa League, he looks the best choice for our anytime goalscorer predictions at 11/5.

Viktoria Plzen aren’t strangers to high scoring affairs either, with five of their last nine at home resulting in at least three goals. This makes odds of 4/5 for Over 2.5 Goals look a very good looking prediction, and I’m backing this. Austria Vienna’s away form should be able to take them to three points as well, so I’m backing a 3-1 correct score predictions at huge odds of 20/1.
