Draw

Reason for tip

Just one point separates Walsall and Grimsby in League Two and the promotion-chasing pair may be tough to split at the Bescot Stadium. The hosts have beaten some strong sides this term but the visitors are unbeaten. A fifth straight away draw for Grimsby looks likely.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Walsall may have enough to stop Grimsby taking all three points but shutting them out could prove difficult. The Mariners have scored 11 goals in four matches this term, so take each side to get one the scoresheet as the points are shared.

Walsall vs Grimsby Town Predictions

  • Walsall have taken six points from their opening three League Two games
  • Grimsby have managed one more point than their hosts, enjoying an unbeaten start to the campaign
  • The Mariners’ last four League Two away games have finished level

Promotion rivals tough to split

It was a season of two halves for Walsall last term as they led the rest of League Two for months before a late-season collapse culminated in a play-off final defeat to Wimbledon.

The Saddlers have dusted themselves off to go again, though, and have started the season in strong fashion, beating Ian Holloway’s Swindon and winning away at Barnet, with their sole defeat a narrow 1-0 to Gareth Ainsworth’s gritty Gillingham.

They are yet to really blow anybody away, however, and in-form Grimsby may ask a few questions of Mat Sadler’s side on Tuesday.

Mariners may be in for another away draw

Grimsby are one point better off than their hosts and will arrive at the Bescot with momentum behind them following a 2-1 victory over Newport which was sealed by Kieran Green’s dramatic 94th-minute winner.

Their positive league results have come against likely relegation candidates Crawley, Harrogate and Newport, though, and a trip to Walsall represents a significantly tougher test.

David Artell’s side needed two late goals to rescue a point at Harrogate, a result which marked their fourth straight away draw in League Two, and, despite their form, may have to settle for a point on Tuesday.
