Tip Reasoning

Victory at already-relegated Chesterfield ended Wycombe’s six-year stay in League Two, a division they had to fight to stay in as recently as 2013-14, when they avoided relegation on the final day. Along with Luton and champions Accrington they have taken the automatic promotion spots and have managed to avoid the lottery of the end of season play-offs.

It has been a nervous few weeks for the Chairboys as they battled to ensure they had enough points in the bag to secure that all important third placed finish and the usually free scoring side were limited to just five goals in their previous seven outings. With the pressure now off, they should be back to their old selves, which could be an issue for this weekend’s visitors Stevenage.

The hosts are the second highest scorers in the league with 78 goals to their name this season but such an impressive goal scoring ratio has often found implications at the back and Wycombe have seen both teams manage to find the back of the net in 68% of their matches this season.

Since the appointment of Dino Maarmia, Stevenage have been one of the sides who have looked impressive in patches and they will certainly be contenders for promotion if they get their recruitment right in the summer. Maarmia first joined Stevenage in 2003 and played 97 games for them in two spells before returning to the club to work under Graham Westley in 2008. The Tunisian joined from National League North side Nuneaton, where he had been in charge since October.

Since coming into the club his side have looked to carry a much greater threat in front of goal and they come into the final match of the season fresh of the back off a 3-1 victory over promotion chasing Exeter City.
