Arsenal vs Newcastle Predictions
- Both teams have scored in Arsenal’s last three domestic games
- Both teams have scored in 17 of Newcastle’s last 18 games across all comps
- Newcastle have lost their last four games
Only a win will do for Gunners
Arsenal’s title hopes are in the balance after defeat at Manchester City last weekend and they desperately need all three points when Newcastle visit on Saturday.
In all likelihood, Arsenal will have been knocked off the top of the table for the first time since early October by the time they kick off on Saturday but a win would see them move back to the summit as Man City have FA Cup commitments this weekend.
Newcastle arrive in poor form after a run of four defeats but Arsenal are going through a crisis of their own with just one win in seven across all competitions so the best option here is a straightforward bet on both teams to score.
Goals at both ends has been a regular feature of Newcastle’s games for some time. The Magpies have scored in 18 consecutive games across all competitions but have just one clean sheet during that period, and both teams scored in the reverse fixture.
Arsenal have the best defensive record in the league but Mikel Arteta’s troops have been softer at the back of late, conceding twice in each of their last four domestic fixtures.
Arsenal can claim the spoils
The Gunners are clearly the more likely winners and they should be able to claim a crucial three points on Saturday.
Arsenal were unlucky not to claim at least a point in a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth in their last home games, and even if they are showing signs of nerves down the final stretch they should be able to see off a Newcastle side who are on a four-game losing run.
Arsenal won the reverse fixture 2-1 and that has been the scoreline in each of Newcastle’s last three losses, so a 2-1 home win seems an obvious correct score pick.
Kai Havertz stands out as a contender for a goal for the hosts but with goals at both ends expected it is worth looking at a visiting player for a bigger price.
William Osula has scored in back-to-back games for Newcastle and should keep his starting spot. The 22-year-old forward looks a decent outside pick for an anytime effort at the Emirates.
