Brighton vs Manchester City Predictions
- City are likely to rest some of their key men.
- Brighton have beaten top five pair Manchester United and Arsenal this month.
- Albion have just two losses in their last 12 at home across all competitions.
Europa-bound Brighton take on the Champions
Manchester City head to Brighton in the Premier League on Wednesday and both sets of fans at the Amex Stadium should be in celebratory mood.
City are the Premier League champions and can now prioritise their upcoming FA Cup and Champions League finals, while Brighton have secured a place in European competition for next season.
Albion will be playing in the Europa League if they can claim one point from their last two games, although in truth a place in Europe’s second tier tournament is essentially secure regardless due to their vastly superior goal difference to Aston Villa.
Expect City to rotate
City claimed a 1-0 win over Chelsea last time out and boss Pep Guardiola made a number of changes to his team, handing starts to younger players like Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis and Sergio Gomez as well as a few fringe men.
Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne made a late substitute appearances, while the likes of Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva remained on the bench. The Catalan coach is likely to adopt the same approach at Brighton to ensure his star men are fresh for their two finals next month and Brighton can get a result against a weakened City team so backing the hosts in the double chance market (win or draw) looks a good option.
Albion lost the reverse fixture 3-1 but they do have a good record against their top six rivals and have claimed wins over both Manchester United and Arsenal this month.
The Seagulls have only lost two of their last 12 home games and at the very least can avoid defeat against a City side with little left to play for in the Premier League.
Spoils could be shared
City managed to beat Chelsea with a weakened team last time out and are unbeaten in 24 games across all competitions, so Albion may have to settle for the point they need to lock in that Europa League spot rather than all three.
Both of these teams tend to be involved in high-scoring games and five of Brighton’s last seven have produced over 2.5 goals as have seven of City’s last nine and an entertaining 2-2 draw between two sides who can play with a bit of freedom on Wednesday appeals.
City’s Julian Alvarez has two goals in his last two games, despite playing for just 92 minutes in total across those fixtures, and he looks a good contender for a goal at as he is likely to continue in place of Haaland in attack.
