Cagliari vs Torino Predictions

Cagliari in Trouble, Torino Inconsistent

Although draws at Sassuolo and Verona were positive results for Cagliari, they remain on a seven-match winless run which leaves them mired in the relegation zone, and with just one win all season. Walter Mazzarri remains under pressure, but will see the visit of Torino, winless on the road since mid-September, as an opportunity.

Torino are unbeaten in four at home, winning three, but have lost each of their last four away games, demonstrating their inconsistency. Although Milan, Roma, and Napoli dealt out three of those defeats, Torino were also beaten 1-0 at lowly Spezia. Each of their last four away games was lost by a single goal, and eight of their last 12 have featured fewer than 2.5 match goals.

Tight Affair Likely in Sardinia?

With the two teams ranking, respectively, 17^th and 15^th in Serie A for goals scored, and 16^th and 13^th for expected goals, don’t expect too much entertainment from what will likely be a cagey affair. A loss for Cagliari would be catastrophic, and after scoring just five goals in their last seven, and having managed the second-fewest shots of all Serie A teams this term, they will attempt to keep it tight.

Under 2.5 match goals, therefore, looks a strong play. In terms of a correct score prediction, I’d back Cagliari’s run of draws to be extended, given Torino’s inability to win on the road. 1-1 seems a solid prediction in that sense.
