Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Chelsea kept only two clean sheets at home to top-half sides last season, while four of their last five home league games have seen BTTS land. Spurs conceded to Southampton in their opener but they have been scoring for fun in 2022, so back goals in this encounter.

Chelsea 2-1

Reason for tip

Chelsea won all four meetings with Tottenham last season, while they meet a Spurs side who lost four of their trips to the top seven last season. Spurs have won just one of their last 37 away matches against Chelsea in all competitions (D12 L24).

Ben Chilwell To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Chilwell is back on the left-flank for Chelsea looking to pick up where he left off. He scored twice in three starts at the Bridge in the league last term. Back him to threaten from wing-back after getting a game under his belt last weekend.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

  • Tottenham have scored 31 league goals since a loss to United in March
  • Chelsea conceded at home in seven of their nine clashes with the top 10
  • Spurs failed to keep a clean sheet at any top eight side last season
  • The visitors lost four of six trips to last season’s top seven

Can Spurs end Bridge blues?

After making a fantastic start, much is being made of Tottenham’s record at Chelsea through the years. The visitors have won just one of their last 37 away matches against Chelsea in all competitions (D12 L24), while they lost all four meetings between the pair last season.

However, Spurs have now racked up 51 Premier League goals in 2022 and they head into this clash in fine form. Since losing 3-2 at Man Utd in March, Spurs have won the most matches (9) and scored the second highest number of goals (31) of sides to play in both campaigns. Could that see them end their Stamford Bridge curse?

Tuchel’s Blues remain a threat

There seems to be a real divide in this game between those who look at Spurs’ record in this fixture and those who are focused on Chelsea’s issues. Just as that away record exaggerates the gap between the pair today, the Blues are better than the team which beat Spurs three times in 12 days in January.

By that point, Romelu Lukaku had lost his spot to Kai Havertz, while the Blues have drafted in Kalidou Koulibaly to replace Antonio Rudiger. Now they have Raheem Sterling to support their attack, while they’re stronger at wing-back now too.

Ben Chilwell eased back into the first team at Everton last week but the left-back’s return should be a huge boost for Chelsea. The Blues missed his threat from the flank last season after his impressive start to the campaign. Chilwell scored twice in just three starts at Stamford Bridge before being ruled out for the season, so I’m backing him to get among the goals on Sunday.

Goals the best bet at the Bridge

These two seem quite evenly matched, but I’m going against this being an overly cagey game. Spurs have a real attacking threat which the Blues will struggle to contain, while the hosts kept only two clean sheets at home to top-half opposition last term.

Meanwhile, Tottenham shipped at least one goal in each of their away games at the top eight. They conceded to Southampton in their opener last weekend, so I’m not all that confident in their ability to claim a clean sheet at the Bridge.

Both teams to score is my selection here, alongside a goal for Chilwell. Given Spurs’ four defeats to the Blues in 21/22 and the fact the visitors lost four of six trips to last season’s top seven, go with a 2-1 home win in this clash.
