Grimsby Town vs Cambridge United Predictions

As we enter into the final stages of the season, many sides are still jostling to get the positions they were targeting at the start of the campaign and with time for things to change drastically, it is essential they pick up some good form between now and the end of the season. One side who is currently in good shape is Grimsby Town, and this weekend they have the opportunity for another three points when they welcome Cambridge United to Blundell Park.

Grimsby Town stretched their unbeaten run to five games as they battled back bravely with ten men to earn a point at Swindon last weekend. Prior to this run Grimsby were seemingly in free-fall as they had lost five games in succession, but they have managed to flip their form back around and, although they still have seven points to make up on the play-off places, that will surely be their target. A major reason for their improvement has been their strength at the back, and their last five matches has seen the concede just a single goal.

Successive defeats including last week’s at fellow strugglers Yeovil have piled pressure on Cambridge United as they bid to avoid the drop. The U’s are much like their hosts in that they are a team who seem to go on streaks of victories or defeats, and the fact that they have won just one of their last five outings seems to indicate they are in for a barren run. The visitors also have to contend with one of the worst away records in the division and an attack which ranks as the second lowest scorers in League Two.

One look at the form book tells you all you need to know about this fixture in our opinion, as the hosts are playing well and winning matches whilst their visitors are struggling and barely scoring goals. With this in mind, we think that backing Grimsby to claim another three points towards their charge for the play-offs represents the best chance of a decent return.
