      Lincoln City vs Oldham Predictions

It’s so far so good for Lincoln as they come into their final 10 games of the League 2 campaign. They find themselves unbeaten in 2019, top of the ladder, and looking very good value for automatic promotion at least this season.

Their 1-0 win over Yeovil on Friday extended their unbeaten streak to an impressive 13 matches in League 2, and while seven of those have ended all square they are still two points clear of 2nd placed Bury and with a game in hand. Not only that, but they are eight points inside the automatic promotion positions, so they’re well on track to make amends for their playoff defeat last term.

The fact that the Imps have lost just four times in 36 league matches this season is impressive to say the least, especially considering how competitive League 2 is. Just as impressive is the fact that only one of these defeats has come on home soil, and that was all the way back at the start of September. It’s going to be a mountainous task for Oldham to claim three points on Tuesday, and that’s not even taking into account the visitors own poor form.

The Latics looked set for a resurgence of sorts as Paul Scholes came in as manager to win his first game in charge 4-1 against Yeovil. Now, a month on, that remains his only managerial victory, with three draws and two defeats making up his five matches since then.

Most recent as their 1-1 stalemate at Cambridge United, leaving them in a mediocre 13th position with only a glimmer of a chance of pushing up to the playoff spots. With every passing week a swift return to the third tier of English football is looking increasingly unlikely.

One thing we can hope for on Tuesday is an entertaining match. Oldham, for all their faults, have still managed to score in each of their last eight away games in all competitions. That being said, they have conceded in all but one of these matches and are coming up against a Lincoln side who have failed to score in just one home league game this season.

That failure to find the net came in their sole home loss of the season back in September. 14 matches have passed since then, but while their attacking players are firing their back line looks decidedly shaky. Lincoln have conceded in 15 of their 18 home games this season, so backing Both Teams to Score here along with a 2-1 win for the League 2 leaders looks a great choice.
