Macclesfield vs Cheltenham Predictions

It has not been quite the dream return to the Football League which fans of Macclesfield Town will have been hoping for, as they are yet to get off the mark in their opening three matches. However, they have the opportunity to do so this Tuesday evening as they welcome a side who they frequently clashed with in non-league football to the Moss Rose Ground, Cheltenham Town.

On their first match back in English football’s top four divisions, Macclesfield pushed with all they had but the superior quality in the Swindon Town side eventually shone through as they were able to claim a 3-2 victory. A 2-0 defeat to Grimsby Town followed for the Silkmen and although they were able to come through in a penalty shoot-out win in the League Cup against Bradford, they were on the end of another defeat last time out as Oldham Athletic claimed a 3-1 win.

It is not as if things have been any better for Cheltenham Town either as they also suffered defeat on the opening day following a 1-0 reversal to Crawley Town. Further 1-0 defeats to Tranmere and Carlisle United sandwiched a rare moment of joy, as they were able to triumph on penalties against Colchester United in the League Cup.

Both of these sides may not have been able to get off the mark in the league as of yet, but they will know if they are to start to build their season then three points this Tuesday is vital. Given the importance of the game, it is likely that they will both go on the attack from the off, and with neither side’s defence looking particularly strong, we think backing there to be over 2.5 goals scored looks to be the way to go in this fixture.
