Mansfield Town vs Cambridge United Predictions

You may not believe where the time has gone but we are already closing in on the final curtain of the 2018/19 season, but in League Two, there is still plenty left to be decided. This weekend sees Mansfield Town look to bolster their hopes of automatic promotion to League One when they face off against a Cambridge United side who are still looking to solidify their spot in the division for next season.

Mansfield Town were always fancied to be one of the sides vying for promotion and their form throughout the campaign has certainly provided them with the opportunity to achieve their goal via the automatic method. Following last weekends 4-1 victory away at Exeter City, the Stags are just two points behind Bury in third place and they will know that if they want to avoid the lottery of the end of season play-offs, then they will have to have a strong end to the season. Prior to that victory last weekend, the hosts were in pretty poor shape as they had failed to win their previous four outings.

Making the trip to Field Mill is a Cambridge United side who will be hoping that they have enough in the bank to ensure they will be playing their football in League Two next season. The U’s go into this contest with a nine point cushion over the drop zone, but it could have been so much worse. Over recent weeks the visitors have enjoyed some pretty solid form and last weekends 3-0 away win at Bury ensured they have suffered just one defeat in their last six outings.

It is a contest which has implications at both ends of the table and, with neither side in particularly brilliant form, we think that the superior quality the hosts have shown throughout the campaign should be enough to ensure they earn the three points. When you also consider the defensive strength of the Stags, especially on home soil, and the fact that Cambridge have a pretty ordinary away record, then it seems unlikely that we will see anything other than a Mansfield win.
