Lyon to Win

Reason for tip

Lyon are on the rise after winning four of their last six Ligue 1 games, including a good away victory at Monaco. Meanwhile, Montpellier are sliding down the table after going on a run of only one win in 11 league games, during which they have lost five times.

Lyon 2-0

Reason for tip

Lyon have won two of their last three games in Montpellier and can do so again, but this may not be a high-scoring contest. Fewer than three goals have been scored in Montpellier’s last four Ligue 1 home games and in five of Lyon’s last eight Ligue 1 away games.

Montpellier vs Lyon Predictions

  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in Montpellier’s last four Ligue 1 home games
  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in five of Lyon’s last eight Ligue 1 away games
  • Alexandre Lacazette has scored seven goals in his last six Ligue 1 appearances

Lyon look good for south coast success

Lyon look good for the win when they travel to Stade de la Mosson to take on an out-of-form Montpellier on Sunday.

Les Gones moved level on points with their hosts when they beat Marseille 1-0 at home last weekend with the only goal of the game scored by evergreen striker Alexandre Lacazette. The former Arsenal man now has seven goals in his last six Ligue 1 games and looks to have his mojo back after a tough start to the campaign.

Having finished last season on an incredible scoring tear, Lacazette can boast an incredible 24 league goals in 30 appearances over the last calendar year. He could make the difference in this clash of two sides that have both averaged exactly one goal per game across their 20 prior league fixtures.

Montpellier could have a creative void

Montpellier will get some defensive reinforcements back from international duty, but they are still going to be without top scorer Akor Adams through injury and attacker Mousa Al Tamari, who remains at the Asian Cup.

Teji Savanier is also a doubt with a knock he picked up in their 4-1 cup exit at the hands of Nice in midweek, so there could be a lack of creativity in the hosts’ ranks. Lyon should get the win here and there is a strong likelihood that there will not be many goals in the contest.
