Newcastle Over 1.5 Team Goals

Reason for tip

Newcastle set up in a defensive fashion at Manchester City last weekend but we should see a return to their attack-minded ways against a defensively fragile Liverpool side. The Magpies have scored at least twice in six of their last eight home league games, notching 22 goals in this period.

Newcastle 2-1

Reason for tip

Newcastle have won six of their last eight home league games and averaged 2.75 goals-per-game in this sequence, but they have only kept two clean sheets and Liverpool have scored in 12 successive Premier League games.

Alexander Isak scored a brace against Aston Villa and scored ten Premier League goals in his first season at Newcastle, including one at Anfield last August.

Newcastle vs Liverpool Predictions

  • Newcastle have scored at least twice in six of their last eight home league games.
  • Liverpool have scored in their last 12 consecutive Premier League games.

Newcastle set to bounce back

Newcastle were brought back down to earth after their 5-1 opening-day win when they visited the Etihad last weekend but they should be able to bounce back with a result against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Magpies kicked the season off in emphatic fashion as they tore Aston Villa apart at St James’ Park and, after a more defensively-minded display against Manchester City, we should see a return to attacking football as they face a Liverpool side with defensive issues.

Reds’ defensive issues remain

The Reds have looked a real attacking threat against Chelsea and Bournemouth but the pre-season concerns over their defence have turned out to be accurate and there is no sign of that improving.

Jurgen Klopp’s side conceded against both Chelsea and Bournemouth, allowing their opponents 3.32 expected goals and 23 shots on goal across these two games.

Isak can lead Magpies to crucial win

Looking back to last season, the Magpies have scored at least twice in six of their last eight home league games and have notched 22 times in this run. They have conceded in six of these matches, though, and Liverpool have scored in each of their last 12 top-flight games, making Newcastle over 1.5 team goals and a 2-1 correct score prediction appealing.

Alexander Isak holds some interest for anytime goalscorer punters, too. The young Sweden international has led the line for Newcastle in their opening two games and scored twice against Aston Villa. He scored ten league goals last season and one of those came at Anfield last August.
