AFC Wimbledon vs Peterborough Predictions
- No team has conceded more shots on target at home than Wimbledon in League 1 this term.
- Peterborough have found the net in six of their seven away games against bottom-half teams.
- Both teams have scored in 75% of Wimbledon’s home games during the current campaign.
Dons slipping
Winners of just one of their last five league games, Wimbledon have started to move in the wrong direction of late. They’ve lost three of their last five and as such have fallen to a rather unflattering 20th position. The Dons are now just two points above the drop-zone.
Fortunately, in relation to this game, much of Wimbledon’s downfall has come on the road. At home, things have been slightly brighter for Glynn Hodges men, who’ve lost only one of their last seven at Kingsmeadow, four of which they’ve won. Wimbledon have also done a good job of scoring on a regular basis at home, as they’ve notched in each of their last nine home games and have only failed to score once in front of a home crowd this term. At the other end, things haven’t been as good. The Dons have conceded in four of their last five at home, as well as in nine out of 12 all told.
Posh out of form
Having looked like play-offs certs not one month ago, Peterborough now find themselves down in 10th position. They’re still close to the coveted top six, two points off to be exact, but given where they were, such a position isn’t great.
Peterborough are now without a win in five matches, three of which they’ve lost. There’s been times during that spell where they’ve been let down at the back, but their attacking players are perhaps the biggest culprits. Posh have scored in just one of their last five matches, notching just a single goal in over 450 minutes of football. Improvements are a must.
Despite their recent form, Posh will fancy themselves to at least improve offensively on Saturday, as they’ve got a good scoring record against teams that currently reside in the bottom half.
Away goals fancied
Recent form may suggest otherwise, but the visitors are fancied to thrive offensively at Kingsmeadow on Saturday. Punter can make this game pay by siding with ‘Peterborough to Score Over 1.5 Goals’. They may have been short on goals of late, but they still have the two most prolific strikers in the division in their ranks, while their record against bottom-half teams bodes well. Posh have scored two or more goals in five of their seven away games against sides currently in the bottom-half. Add in that Wimbledon, who rank as the worst team in the league when it comes to shots on target, have conceded multiple home goals against useful top-half teams such as Rotherham, Bristol Rovers and Oxford and visiting goals begin to make plenty of appeal.
In the ‘Correct Score’ market a 2-1 win for the visitors appeals. Wimbledon have a great habit of scoring at home, but they rarely exceed a single goal, scoring just once on nine occasions at Kingsmeadow this term. Such a stat doesn’t bode well for them against a side that has regularly scored twice away from home.
