Bayern Munich vs Olympiacos Predictions
Bayern welcome Olympiacos to Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening, as they look for a fourth win in as many games in Group B. The visitors go in search of their first win of the campaign.
German giants Bayern find themselves without a manager ahead of this fixture, as Niko Kovac was relieved of his duties after Saturday’s 5-1 defeat to Frankfurt. If ever there was a good time to face the reigning Bundesliga champions, now might be it.
Their recent embarrassment aside, the hosts haven’t done too badly this season, especially in this competition, where they have a 100% record thanks to 3-2 win in the reverse fixture. On that occasion, Bayern endured a few scares at the back, while their overall level of defending was questionable, but they were typically strong going forward, so much so that they were worthy winners.
Overall in Group B, Bayern have looked strong; they’ve shown lots going forward, scoring 13 goals in three games, averaging no less than 22 shots per game. They’ve not been particularly useful at the back, conceding twice against both Tottenham and Wednesday’s opponents, but it’s fair to say that their attacking efforts have outweighed any defensive deficiencies.
Although not as imperious as Bayern, Olympiacos have also looked useful going forward in this competition. The visitors have scored in each of their three matches, notching a total of five goals. They’re also averaging a more than respectable 13.67 shots for in Group B, which tells us that they’ve certainly had a go.
However, for all they’ve made their presence felt offensively, Olympiacos have found it tough to keep teams at bay. The Greeks are yet to keep a clean sheet in Group B and have shipped a rather disappointing total of eight goals. They certainly competed in the final third in the reverse of this fixture, but they were unable to withstand even the slightest amount of pressure, which does not bode well ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Allianz Arena.
From a betting point of view, as was the case a week ago, this is far from the most appealing game. Bayern are by far and away the better side, and they’re likely to win with something in hand, but backing them to do so is simply not viable. One possible angle for those looking to get involved in ‘Bayern -2.75 Asian Handicap’. There was a large gap, especially in terms of creativity, between the pair a fortnight ago, while Bayern made light work of beating Red Star 3-0, giving nothing away, in their only previous home match in Group B. Consider this in conjunction with the fact that Olympiacos’ worst attacking effort came when losing 3-1 away against Red Star and plumping for a wide-margin victory in favour of the hosts seems reasonable.
