Burton Albion vs Fulham Predictions
Burton are in danger of losing boss Nigel Clough to East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest with the move potentially taking place even before this game, which would leave the Brewers in caretaker charge. That would be a hammer blow, especially coming so soon after a massive weekend away win at fellow strugglers QPR but Burton have rebuilt admirably in recent years, following the departures of Gary Rowett and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to supposedly bigger and better things.
With both those men currently out of work, Burton could be tempted to look back to the future but may struggle to convince either to rejoin should Clough depart. Whoever is in charge, this is going to be a tough game against a Fulham side enjoying a strong campaign and Burton’s approach isn’t likely to be wildly different to what it has been. Their home games have been fairly low scoring affairs with only 1.92 goals on average in Championship matches played at the Pirelli this term. 69% of their home games have had under 2.5 goals.
Fulham have been a bit inconsistent but one thing that has remained constant is a relative lack of early goals in their games. There have been 76 goals in total in their Championship matches this term. However, only 14% of them have come in the opening half-hour of their matches. They’ve scored only 3 goals in the opening 30 minutes themselves but a massive 15 between the 31st minute and Half-Time. Fulham have netted 14 goals in their last 8 Championship games but none of them have come in the opening half-hour.
With Burton not packing a huge goal threat themselves, averaging just 1 goal per game in the Championship, it makes an early goal look quite unlikely here and it may be a game that takes some time to liven up. Given that, backing No Goal before 28:00 at 5/6 looks like it offers value here.
