Celta Vigo vs Rayo Vallecano Predictions
Celta Vigo to Edge Past Goal-Shy Rayo at Balaídos
Celta Vigo should be backed to secure a third consecutive home win in the Primera Liga when Rayo Vallecano visit Estadio Abanca Balaidos on Sunday. Claudio Giraldez’s side have been successful in their last two home games.
They are three places above Rayo Vallecano in the table, with seven points separating the two teams. Celta are seventh, having won seven, drawn eight and lost four of their 19 games, while Rayo are tenth with five wins, seven draws and seven losses.
Celta Vigo kept up their recent winning trend with a 1-0 victory away at Sevilla last Monday, securing the win with an 88th-minute penalty from Marcos Alonso. The betting suggested there would not be much between the teams, but Celta Vigo had the chances to beat Sevilla by more than the one-goal margin.
Celta Vigo are keeping things tight defensively this term, having not conceded a goal in five of their last seven Primera Liga games.
Their current form makes for encouraging reading. They have had five victories in their last seven matches in the Primera Liga and are going for a third successive win, having only lost one of those seven games.
Rayo Vallecano have won two of their ten games as an underdog this season, and backing them in those matches would have resulted in a 3.40-unit loss.
Rayo Vallecano are in a rut, having failed to win eight of their last nine Primera Liga games. They have not tasted victory in any of their last four away matches, suffering defeat in three of those games.
They are going through a barren spell in front of goal and have lost three of their last four La Liga away games to nil. They have now gone four road games without scoring.
Rayo Vallecano’s struggles at the back are a concern. They have failed to keep a clean sheet in five of their last six league games, with their last shutout coming against Real Betis in December.
No team has had more games with under 2.5 goals in the Primera Liga than Celta Vigo this term, and a 1-0 home success appeals as the correct score. Celta were 1-0 winners against Sevilla in their last league game, and three of Rayo Vallecano’s seven defeats have come by a 1-0 scoreline.
