Colchester vs Forest Green Rovers Predictions

  • Colchester United have avoided defeat in nine of their last 11 home league games.
  • Forest Green Rovers have failed to win seven of their last eight away league fixtures.
  • Colchester United’s record at home to League Two’s current top seven is P5 W1 D3 L1 this season.

No time to be backing League Two leaders

Now is not the time to be backing Forest Green Rovers at short odds, so we will be giving the visitors a wide berth when they travel to the JobServe Community Stadium in Colchester on Monday.

The Nailsworth outfit looked nailed on for promotion a few weeks ago, but a run of four draws and three defeats in their last seven games has brought a number of the chasing pack to within striking distance. It’s not as if Rob Edwards’ men have had a tough sequence of fixtures to deal with either as the teams that have denied them wins in those seven games currently occupy 8th, 14th, 15th, 3rd, 11th, 13th and 20th places in the table.
Last week’s 1-1 home draw with a Leyton Orient side that have collected just six points in a sixteen-game winless run might just have been their worst display of the season. Things went against them in the previous weekend’s 2-0 home loss to Bradford, who had lost their previous five games, when FGR could have been 2-0 up themselves in the first half.

Colchester’s caution could add to the frustration

But to see team who appear to be facing a crisis of confidence during the season’s run-in put up as odds-on shots again has us looking for value elsewhere. Colchester boss Wayne Brown has been setting his team up cautiously of late and only opening the game up in the final 30 minutes – when all of his team’s last six goals have been scored.
We would expect a similar approach to this clash with the league leaders too as the U’s seem intent on drawing their way to safety. Six of their last nine home games have finished all square and they have been able to prevent four of the current top seven from winning in Essex with two of those clubs still to play.

So Colchester to avoid defeat in a double chance play looks to be the best advice here with a 1-1 scoreline – that has popped up in half of Forest Green’s last ten matches – the obvious correct score forecast.
