Visitors continue promotion hunt at lowly Cosenza

Fabio Caserta’s Benevento have won each of their last three Serie B games, and have tasted victory on seven of their last 10 outings. That fine run of form has them firmly in the promotion picture as the business end of the season approaches, and a trip to lowly Cosenza is unlikely to harm those prospects on Thursday.

Benevento’s excellent run has catapulted them into the promotion race after a run of five games without a win at the turn of the year. The visitors now sit just three points behind second-placed Monza with a game in hand, and will move above their rivals with a Thursday-night win, thanks to their superior goal difference. The visitors have scored the most goals in Serie B (56), and have plundered nine in their last three games.

Cosenza, meanwhile, have the second-worst attacking record in the division after scoring just 29 goals in 33 games, and have the league’s third-worst defence when adjusted for goals conceded per game (1.64). Cozensa sit narrowly outside the relegation zone, but after failing to net in four of their last seven games, winning none during that run, appear to be sinking without trace.

Benevento should continue fine form

Considering the dire form of the relegation-threatened hosts and the excellent run of by Benevento, who hammered Cosenza 3-0 in the return fixture, backing the away side looks the only sensible play for Thursday night.

Meanwhile, a 2-0 away triumph could be a decent correct score prediction, given Cosenza’s goalscoring woes.
