- Dinamo Zagreb have scored at least once in seven of their last eight games in the competition.
Zagreb strong at home
Dinamo Zagreb produced a remarkable turnaround to dump Tottenham Hotspur out in the previous round of the Europa League, and the Croatians’ formidable home form should make them similarly tricky opponents for Villarreal in Thursday’s quarter-final first-leg.
The Blues have yet to taste defeat at the Stadion Maksimir in this season’s tournament, in fact, Manchester City are the only club to have beaten Dinamo on their own patch in a continental competition since August 2018.
Dinamo’s show of strength in their 3-0 triumph over Spurs in the Last 16 should ensure Villarreal are on their toes when they arrive in Zagreb and a hugely competitive tussle should follow.
In-form Villarreal a threat
Villarreal warmed up for their trip to Croatia with a comfortable 3-0 La Liga victory over another Europa League combatant, Granada, pushing their winning streak to five games in the process.
Gerard Moreno helped himself to a hattrick in Saturday’s triumph, and the Spanish international, who has notched four times in his last three European appearances, will be Villarreal’s biggest danger man again on Thursday.
Sides difficult to separate
Dinamo Zagreb put their unbeaten Europa League home run on the line against a Villarreal outfit that have yet to lose a single fixture in the competition this term, and both clubs could finish with their records intact on Thursday.
No club has been able to keep the Yellow Submarine off the scoresheet in the Europa League this season, and with red-hot striker Gerard Moreno in tow, Villarreal will expect to register for the 11th game in a row in the tournament this week.
Dinamo have the technical talents and creativity in the final third to create opportunities of their own however, and that in turn makes the both teams to score market an attractive option at the prices on offer.
With both teams carrying impressive unbeaten records into Thursday’s first-leg, our 1-1 correct score prediction tips the sides to finish the openingt act of their showdown at level pegging.
