England U21 vs Switzerland U21 Predictions
These are the top two sides in the group with 7 points apiece from 3 games and they are likely to contest the top two places come the end of the group.
This is a new era for England following yet another disappointing performance in the finals of the European Under 21 Championship in the summer. With several players too old or having graduated into the senior set-up, this is a relatively inexperienced squad but they have made a bright start to the campaign.
In 4 matches since the Euros, England are yet to concede a goal with wins coming against the United States, Norway and Kazakhstan prior to a 0-0 draw in Bosnia last week.
Switzerland weren’t involved in the European Championships or even the play-offs last time around so they haven’t played a great deal of football at this level of late. They picked up 7 points against the same opposition as England but also had to settle for a point in their last game when they were held at home by Norway.
England’s home record in this competition is excellent. They have won their last 14 home competitive Under 21 internationals in a run stretching back over 5 years and although Switzerland are a decent side, they are unlikely to be good enough to end that run and at 8/11 England look really good value for the win.
Stewarded by Calum Chambers, England are very solid defensively and have the likes of James Ward-Prowse and Ruben Lofus-Cheek in midfield who provide plenty of craft and energy.
A home clean sheet is certainly likely and although England are still trying to settle on a preferred starting strike-force, one or two could stake their claim here including Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom, currently on loan at Hull.
If you’re looking for a correct scoreline bet consider backing England to win 2-0 at 13/2.
