Everton vs Southampton Predictions
- Southampton have won just one of their last 26 Premier League matches.
- The Saints have kept one clean sheet on the road in the league all season.
- Everton have lost one of their last eight league outings at Goodison Park.
Toffees will want to put on a show
It will be a landmark day on Sunday when Everton play their final Premier League match at Goodison Park and the Toffees will not want to leave for their new home at Bramley Moore Dock having lost to basement boys Southampton.
The old stadium will still be in operation next season as the venue for the club’s games in the Women’s Super League, but it will still represent the end of an era and, although the match is of little importance in terms of the league table, we should still expect an intense performance from David Moyes’s side.
The Merseysiders have to live with the indignity of being one of only two teams to have lost to the sorry Saints all season.
The St Mary’s outfit claimed a goalless draw against Manchester City last week to avoid the unwanted record of being the worst Premier League team in history, and while their points tally of 12 is pitiful, they have at least shown a bit of industry on the road of late.
Sorry Saints can make an impression
The Saints have conceded 82 goals this term, but while they lost 2-0 to the almost equally woeful Leicester in their last away game, they had scored in seven of their previous away games, which included a 3-1 loss at champions Liverpool and a 3-2 defeat at highflying Nottingham Forest.
The circumstances of the occasion should ensure that Everton go on the front foot and that may create opportunities for Southampton to get on the scoresheet, especially as they were criticised for a lack of ambition in last weekend’s clash with the Citizens.
Conversely, the problem is that they may be unable to keep the Toffees at bay and the fact the visitors have conceded at least twice in seven of their last nine away games points to a home win with both teams scoring, while those looking for a correct-score interest are guided towards a 3-1 win for Moyes’s boys.
Beto can maintain his scoring touch
Striker Beto leads the Everton Premier League goalscoring charts with eight this term and he is finishing the season strongly, so is worth supporting in the anytime-goalscorer market.
He was on target in his last two appearances, the 2-2 draw at home to Ipswich and last week’s impressive 3-1 success at Fulham, and as he had a total of eight goal efforts in those two matches, he should fancy his chances against the division’s leakiest defence.
