FC Volendam vs Ajax Reserves Predictions

A brace from young starlet Danilo helped Jong Ajax to secure their fourth win from five home games against RKC on match day ten, but things haven’t been quite as smooth for the defending champions away from home this term. Michael Reiziger’s side have just one victory from five on their travels and head into this Friday’s fixture at Volendam on the back of consecutive away defeats. Can Jong show their class at Kras Stadion against a team that’s won just once in ten games this season?

Jong Ajax made hard work of things against 16th placed RKC last Friday, but Danilo’s double proved enough to earn a 2-1 win and condemn Waalwijk to their eighth consecutive league fixture without a victory.

With four wins from five at Sportpark De Toekomst, Jong boast one of the best home records in Eerste Divisie and have shown glimpses of the form which saw them lift the title last season.

But it’s been a different story for Michael Reiziger’s side on the road, with three defeats in five outings the key reason why they’re currently 8th in the table and seven points behind leaders Go Ahead Eagles.

Ajax lost out 2-1 in their battle with Jong PSV a fortnight ago, which will have been a disheartening result considering the rivalry between the two teams, and they may find this Friday’s fixture a tougher assignment than the league table suggests, with Volendam losing just one of their first five home matches this term.

Palingboeren have looked a much sturdier and more resilient outfit since Hans De Koning stepped into the managerial hot-seat a month ago, and the veteran has steadied the ship by guiding his team to four games without a defeat.

Volendam are still 17th in the standings heading into match day 11 following a 1-1 draw at FC Eindhoven last week, but they could jump up to 14th with a win here. That’s not out of the question if they perform as well as they did in the 2-2 draw with Almere City at Kras Stadion a fortnight ago.

Jong could easily come into this match with a far more positive mind set after completing a league double over Volendam in 2017/18, which of course included a 7-0 demolition job at Sportpark de Toekomst.

But Reiziger’s side aren’t just a solid betting proposition here based on their poor away form and general inconsistency, whilst last season’s aforementioned humiliation is unlikely to affect Volendam with De Koning now in charge.

So we’re swerving the match betting in this one as it’s too tight to call, and instead backing over 2.5 goals with both teams to score. That’s been the outcome in three of the last five league outings for both of these teams and was also a feature of this corresponding fixture last season, which Jong won 1-2. We’re going for a 1-1 draw this time though in the correct score market.
