Flamengo vs Barcelona Sc Predictions
- Flamengo are unbeaten in 10 matches, winning 9 times in the process.
- Flamengo have won their last 6 continental home games, scoring an average of 3.33 goals a game in the process.
- Barcelona have lost their last 2 games and have kept just 1 clean sheet in 5 matches.
- Barcelona have lost 2 of their last 4 Libertadores away games.
Flamengo looking for routine win
After rampaging to the domestic and Libertadores crown last year, Flamengo are once again favourites to win every competition they enter this year. With an unbelievably talented squad, Mengao have already won 3 titles in 2020 in the form of the Recopa Sudamericana, Supercopa do Brasil and the Taca Guanabara.
Flamengo kicked off their Libertadores defence with a 2-1 win against Colombians Junior last week and will be looking for another victory on Thursday to put themselves in pole position to win the group. Unbeaten in 10 matches, of which they’ve won 9, confidence is sky high in home ranks and those taking to the pitch will be gunning for what would be a 7th consecutive home win in continental action.
A long evening looks in store for Barcelona
Meanwhile, although they did well to beat Progreso, Sporting Cristal and Cerro Porteno to reach the Libertadores group stage, Barcelona simply didn’t turn up to last week’s opener. The side were humbled 3-0 on their own patch by compatriots Independiente del Valle; a result that leaves their prospects of making the knockout stage looking bleak.
Having followed up said loss with a 2-1 domestic defeat at LDU Quito, the feeling in Barcelona ranks isn’t a good one right now and they make the trip to Rio in poor spirits. Having also lost 2 of their last 4 Libertadores away games, they aren’t the strongest of travellers and don’t look like pulling off a shock in Brazil.
A comfortable Flamengo win is expected
Ultimately there can only be one favourite in Thursday’s clash and that’s Flamengo. Man for man, they are on another level to the visitors on paper and if they play to anywhere near their maximum, they’ll claim maximum points with no issues whatsoever.
All things considered, we like the look of backing the hosts on a -1 handicap and feel it provides good value as far as the betting goes. Flamengo have won their last 6 continental home games, scoring an average of 3.33 goals a game in the process and with that in mind, we believe a 3-0 margin of home victory could well be on the cards.
