Spain U23 to Win

Reason for tip

Spain confidently brushed aside Japan in the quarter-finals and then came from behind to overcome Morocco in the last four, while France have had to dig deep in their knockout games against Argentina and Egypt. La Roja look to have the momentum and they can use that to get over the line and claim gold against the hosts.

Spain U23 2-1

Reason for tip

France have only conceded one goal in the tournament so Spain are unlikely to win by a big-margin. La Roja have scored at least twice in four of their five games but have also conceded in four of them, so take a 2-1 win for Santi Denia’s side.

Fermin Lopez To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Fermin Lopez has been the key man for Spain in France. The Barcelona forward has five goals in total and three of those have come in the knockout stages, managing a goal and an assist against Morocco to inspire the Spanish comeback. As such, Lopez looks a strong play in the anytime scorer market.

France U23 vs Spain U23 Predictions

  • France needed extra time to overcome Egypt in the last four.
  • Spain have looked stronger since the group stages.
  • Both teams have scored in four of La Roja’s five games.

Gold the goal for France and Spain

The men’s Olympics Gold Medal Game takes place on Friday as host nation France take on Spain at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

Before the tournament started, Les Bleus were the favourites and Spain were next in the betting so it is no real surprise to see them meet in the final – but both came through tests in the last four.

France were taken to extra time by Egypt and La Roja had to come from behind to beat Morocco.

Value lies with Spain

I tipped the French pre-tournament but based on the last few performances for both of these teams I’ve been forced to reconsider and as underdogs Spain have real appeal in the showpiece. After a couple of underwhelming displays in the group stages, Santi Denia’s side have grown into the tournament and they’ve been excellent in the knockout rounds, comfortably dispatching of Japan before taking out a strong Morocco team.

In contrast France have perhaps gone off the boil, as they had to withstand a lot of pressure after taking an early lead against Argentina in the quarter-finals before being taken into extra time by Egypt.

The momentum is with Spain and they can edge what should be a close game in the French capital.

France have been excellent at the back, however, and the goal they conceded against the Egyptians was the first they have shipped in the tournament. Spain have scored at least twice in four of their five games but have also conceded in four of those, so a 2-1 win for the 1992 winners is the correct score pick.

Fermin Lopez had to settle for a bit-part role at Euro 2024 but has been the key man for La Roja in France. The Barcelona forward has five goals in total and three of those have come in the knockout stages, managing a goal and an assist against Morocco to inspire the Spanish comeback. As such, Lopez looks a strong play in the anytime scorer market.
