Gremio vs Flamengo Predictions

Sunday’s Brazilian Serie A action sees Gremio doing battle with Flamengo in Porto Alegre. An open and exciting game is expected to be in order as both sides chase the three points on offer.

It’s fair to say Gremio will come into Sunday’s game highly motivated, as they look to make up for the humiliation they suffered at the hands of Flamengo in the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores. Indeed, Tricolor were beaten 6-1 on aggregate in said tie, after a simply embarrassing 5-0 defeat in Rio de Janeiro that left spirits low at the club.

Nonetheless, Renato Gaucho’s men have shown an excellent reaction to said disappointment, winning an impressive 5 league matches in a row whilst scoring an average of 2.2 goals a game. That has the side inside the top 4 places with a 4 point margin of error and with confidence high in the camp, those taking to the pitch this weekend will be aiming for yet another positive result.

Meanwhile, Flamengo have been by far and away the best team in Brazil this year and their dominance over Gremio in the Libertadores is just one example of that statement.11 points clear at the top of the table, Flamengo all but have the title wrapped up and now have one eye on next Saturday’s Libertadores final against River Plate.

Nonetheless, even if Jorge Jesus opts to make a few changes for this encounter Flamengo will still be highly competitive given how deeply talented their squad is. Unbeaten in a staggering 24 matches across all competitions, the visitors go into every game assured of their ability to secure a positive result and this Sunday will be no different.

Ultimately, we’re expecting this to be an exciting watch and it’s the standout clash in Serie A this weekend. Both teams come into the game in excellent shape and with attacking talent stacked on both sides, it’d be hugely surprising if the game was to end up a closed one.

As such, we really like the look of backing the Both Teams to Score line and feel it provides good value at current prices. Gremio aren’t finding goals hard to come by, Flamengo have scored in 11 consecutive away games and that leads us to believe a 1-1 draw could well be on the cards; the same way it finished the last time the sides met in Porto Alegre.
