Grimsby Town vs Exeter Predictions
- Grimsby conceded at least one goal in 75% of their home matches.
- Exeter City have been undefeated in their last nine matches.
- Exeter City have been undefeated in their last four away matches.
New manager has brought in plenty of positivity
Since Grimbsy Town appointed Ian Holloway, after holding talks at a fish and chip restaurant in Cleethorpes, it has been a story of positivity for the Mariners. Holloway had been out of management since leaving QPR in May 2018 but the 56-year-old agreed to come back to the club and succeed Michael Jolley, who was sacked in November after a seven-game winless run.
However, since then the Mariners have turned their form around and they come into this match undefeated in their five league matches and pulling away from the danger zone. Despite this good form, their is still plenty of work to be done as the Mariners still need to improve on their poor record in front of goal, and considering that they have not managed to score more than once in any of their last 14 league games, it is a record which does not look like improving any time soon.
The biggest test of Holloway’s Grimsby career
The latest side to make the trip to Blundell Park in the hope of earning three points is this weekend’s visitors, Exeter City. The Grecians will be fully confident in their ability to claim the three points as they come into this match in excellent form and know that if they are able to get the victory, then it will do their bid for promotion no harm whatsoever.
The visitors are undefeated in their last nine matches and boast the third best away record in the division with 22 points coming from their 13 matches on the road to date. When you factor in that they feature highly in the goals scored table and are second in the league with a game in hand, it looks as though the hosts have it all to do to keep them at bay.
The Grecians should come out on top
While the hosts are riding the new manager bounce at the moment, we think that it is a bubble which we expect to pop this weekend. The hosts have improved dramatically, but they still have plenty of issues to address and this weekend’s visitors are at the top of their game and should expose their deficiencies. With this in mind, backing an away win looks to be the way to go.
In terms of a correct score tip, although we expect the visitors to claim the win, we do not think there will be a lot between the sides. The hosts may not have scored more than once in their last 14 league games, but they have scored in each of their last five. Meanwhile, the visitors have scored in 77% of their away matches and should have enough to come out on top. All in all, we think a 2-1 away win will be the final result.
