Accies to falter in home opener against Ayr

Hamilton have had a difficult start to the new season and their fortunes way worsen before they get better when they host Ayr United at New Douglas Park for their Scottish Championship season opener on Saturday.

The Accies were only able to win one of their four League Cup group fixtures to begin the campaign – with this sole victory coming against lower league Stranraer – while they also failed to win either of their two home matches against Ross County and Stirling.

Ayr meanwhile found much more joy in their League Cup campaign – despite also exiting at the group stages – as they won three of their four matches and their only defeat came against Premiership outfit Dundee United, who the Honest Men ran close at Tannadice Park in a 2-1 loss.

Ayr have looked the more impressive outfit of the two in the opening stages of the season and this form should see them take all three points in their league opener this weekend. The Honest Men have won each of their last two head-to-heads with Hamilton to nil and a repeat could be in store on Saturday, with a 2-0 final score drawing some appeal.
