Newport won’t spring any surprises at Harrogate

Harrogate Town recruited well over the summer and have so far proven to be the most consistent force in League Two.

Only two points dropped tells its own story of how well Simon Weaver’s side have done in this unrelenting division, although it will be incredibly tough for the Sulphurites to remain there through the remaining 41 games.

Weaver was critical of Town’s lacklustre display in last month’s home draw with Exeter City, which lacked the intensity he demands. But he refreshed his line-up by making seven changes against Mansfield the following midweek and that much-improved performance was followed by an identical 3-1 win against the Stags in the league last weekend.

Harrogate seem well and truly acclimatised to the division now and shouldn’t be opposed until they show any weakness, which we don’t think a Newport County side with only seven points will expose on Friday.

The Exiles have pace in attack, but showed they can be vulnerable to rugged opposition in two of their last three League Two games when trounced 3-0 by physical Salford and dominated at home by a direct Orient approach.

Town have the tools to test them in those areas and their sound home form makes the hosts an irresistible play at an odds-against price.

Harrogate haven’t kept a clean sheet at EnviroVent Stadium since early March so our correct score fancy for this for Weaver’s men to collect a third 3-1 win on the trot.
