Hertha Berlin vs Borussia Monchengladbach Predictions

Hertha are starting to show that last season’s twenty week-long stint within the top four was not a fluke. Berlin are just a point behind fourth placed Cologne after last weekend’s 1-0 defeat away to Hoffenheim, who are the most in-form side in the Bundesliga. Though Hertha were uninspiring last time out, registering just 5 attempts on goal to Hoffenheim’s 25, and their general away results haven’t been particularly impressive, taking two points (D2 L2) from a difficult set of four matches on the road, the Berliners have been flawless at home. Notably, Hertha’s top scorer Vedad Ibisevic is the man who thrives most at the Olympiastadion, scoring three goals over Berlin’s last two at home. He’d be a decent shout for an anytime goalscorer bet here at 15/8 with bet365.

Borussia M’gladbach played out an equally deflating 2nd consecutive 0-0 draw at home to Eintracht Frankfurt last Friday. Gladbach are now four matches without a win in the Bundesliga and their mid-week 1-1 draw at home to Celtic in the UEFA Champions League will add further pressure on them this weekend. Borussia M’gladbach have struggled going forward with their attacking options being limited in recent matches(see team news) and this reduced recovery time will do very little to help Gladbach’s year long struggle with form on the road – Borussia M’gladbach have won just one Bundesliga away match since November 2015 (W1 D4 L10).

Although Borussia M’gladbach have a decent track record against Hertha Berlin (see head-to-head), we fancy the hosts chances to turn that around here – odds at 7/5 with bet365 – if not only for both sides’ respective home (W4) and away (D1 L3) forms in the new season. Given Hertha’s last match at home was a 2-1 win over the inform Cologne, a side who had lost just one of their last 15 Bundesliga away matches, then the Berliners should also have a decent opportunity to take away all three points against an out-of-form patchwork M’gladbach side, especially with a few extra days preparation.

Another notable trend we can take away from Hertha’s recent home form comes from their goal-scoring tendencies. Hertha have scored exactly two goals in all four of their home matches so far – two 2-0 wins and two 2-1 wins – so Hertha over 1.5 team goals at 5/4 would also be a tempting bet, particularly when considering that Borussia M’gladbach have conceded two or more goals in three of their four (75%) away matches this season. As such, odds of 10/1 for Hertha Berlin to win 2-0 with bet365 seems very generous for a correct score bet.
